Our first ever Girl Geek Dinner in Coffs is this Saturday, 5th June at 6:30pm at the Sanctuary Resort Rainforest Restaurant.
We are hoping that some publicity will help to get the word out there. You can help too! If you are already coming to the dinner.. great! Please tell other women in the area you know who could be interested. There will be interesting speakers and a great opportunity to get together and network with others interested in technology.
This article was in the Coffs Advocate on Saturday 29th May.. The web address in the article was incorrect but if you are reading this blog, you will already be on the right page.
Don't forget you need a ticket before the dinner - no tickets will be sold at the door. $15 per person includes finger food and one drink from the bar. You can buy tickets online at http://www.stickytickets.com.au/3525, or email us at girlgeekdinnerscoffs@gmail.com or buy tickets at SCU Student Services, M Block on the CHEC campus. We hope to see you there!

First Girl Geek Dinner in Coffs

Dinner details
I am so excited to be writing about the details for the first ever "Girl Geek Dinner" in Coffs Harbour!
It's a great opportunity to get together and network, learn something and talk to others that are interested in technology, in a relaxed atmosphere. The dinner is going to be informal, with finger food and a speaker or three that will speak on technical subjects, business areas and tech issues. There may even be demos of interesting technology! (Speakers will be announced soon - keep an eye on this blog for more details).
Who can come?
Even though this is called a Girl Geek Dinner, and is particularly aimed at encouraging women who are interested in technology, men are allowed to attend. HOWEVER they must be invited by and accompanying a woman ... and a woman is allowed to invite at most one man. This means the numbers of women will always be higher than the numbers of men attending, in direct contrast to most tech events!
When and Where?
Date/Time: 5th June 2010, 6.30 - 10 pm
Where: the Sanctuary Resort Rainforest Restaurant, Pacific Hwy, Coffs Harbour
Tickets
Tickets must be purchased prior to the evening as we need firm numbers for catering. Tickets are $15.00 per person and include finger food and one drink from the bar. Further drinks will be available for purchase, including non-alcoholic options. Important note: as this is a non-profit event, we can't give refunds for tickets after 48 hours before the event, because at that stage, we have to pay the caterers whether you come or not!
Accommodation:
For those who wish to travel to Coffs Harbour and stay overnight, the Sanctuary Resort has given us some good rates on accommodation. Details in the next post!
How to get tickets:
Either in person at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus or from Raina or Carolyn (make arrangements by emailing girlgeekdinnerscoffs@gmail.com), or
Online at http://www.stickytickets.com.au/3525 (note: there is a $1.50 credit-card processing fee charged by Sticky Tickets).
Enquiries:
Contact either Raina or Carolyn at girlgeekdinnerscoffs@gmail.com for any enquiries.

Starting Out

General
I read about the Girl Geek Dinners on twitter and thought it would be great to go along. However Coffs is around halfway between Brisbane and Sydney, so going to either for dinner wasn’t really practical. Recently I thought that it would be great if we had our own Girl Geek Dinners here … after all we certainly have enough girl geeks to do so!
Watch this space for notification of upcoming dinners … the first will be in the next few weeks.
